AMD RX 6800 XT & Intel i9 10900K Smart Access Memory Benchmarks & Analysis
1,353When AMD announced Smart Access Memory (SAM), it forced Intel and Nvidia to quickly announce their support this tech too, which is known as Resizable Bar. In this video I benchmark the Intel I9 10900K with an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT using an ASUS Z490 Maximus XII Extreme motherboard to see how Resizable BAR affects performance.
Resizable BAR on an Intel motherboard requires that you update the motherboard to the latest BIOS, and so far several vendors have provided BIOS for the Z490 / Comet Lake motherboards. After the BIOS is updated you simply go inside and enable Resizable BAR.
Resizable BAR's performance depends upon the game and application, with some benchmarks showing little gain (Timespy extreme) but other software such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Shadow of the Tomb Raider show sizable performance gains with Resizable BAR enabled.
When this tech is enabled by Nvidia via a bios update next year we'll fully explore it.
