Gameplay of the first missions of Amok, a third person mecha action game released in 1996 by Scavenger, Inc. I remember trying a demo of this game back in the day but I remembered little else, except that it caught my attention for its 3D effect, very striking in 1996. It uses an engine based on voxels, with some polygonal elements and sprites. Today it may not look like much, but these graphical techniques were very new in its day. I put in fact this game as an example that games made with voxels have been around for a long time, something that not many people appear to know.

Otherwise, this is a simple and straightforward action game, where most of the time we simply have to go where we are told to go and destroy the target, while killing everything that moves along the way. But it is quite fun within that simplicity. The worst thing about the game, without a doubt, is the very small field of view, made so that it would work on as many PCs as possible at the time, but it's annoying not to see more than a few meters in front of you.

In this gameplay I'm playing the Windows 95 version (in the same CD were included this version and the MS-DOS version) on Windows 98 emulated with DOSBox-X. I have no experience with this game, so I play in easy difficulty (there is only easy and hard) to see as much game as possible, because in this game if you get killed, it's Game Over and back to start, there are no lives and you can't save, because you can't save the game settings (it's like this, indicated in the readme). As a curiosity, this game also has a version for Sega Saturn, maybe I'll take a look at it.
