Andrew Ambrose - Monosodium Groove (Famicom 2A03+Konami VRC7 Original Song)
I'll admit that I got a tad lazy with my previous song The Trudge On Forward (though I still do like it), but I certainly put in more effort with this one. While I have previously worked with the Konami VRC7 in my Famicom cover of Celebration earlier this year, this is my first time using it with the 2A03 and nothing else. As you may already know, the sound capabilities of the VRC7 were cloned from the Yamaha YM2413 (commonly associated with MSX and the Sega Master System) and were only used in a single game during the original lifespan of the Famicom: Lagrange Point. Alas, this chip gets plenty of love by the chiptune community, especially since it was added to FamiTracker about a decade ago (check out Fearofdark's "The Coffee Zone"; it's simply a masterpiece). Since I've previously worked with the YM2413 in Furnace, I was able to jump right in with the VRC7 in Dn-FamiTracker (though I didn't bother with any custom instruments since setting the parameters is somewhat a nightmare in Dn-FamiTracker). I spent about 2 days on this song, though I only spent a few hours on it on the first day before taking a break to play some Halo and Jumping Flash!, the latter of which I beat for the first time. I'm glad I took that break, though, because I was able to nail the rest of the song on the second day, and this one turned out great. Why is it titled Monosodium Groove (outside of the "groove" part), you may be wondering? Well, I'll leave you an 'if you know, you'll know', at least for now.
