Devious Dungeon is a new retro action platform game from the creators the League of Evil-series. Devious Dungeon is available for 89 cents exclusive for iOS. Devious Dungeon is in the tradition of other games by Ravenous Games. The developers combined retro graphics with platforme elements, but for Devious Dungeon they moved the setting to the Middle Ages. An evil dragon has awakened in the catacombs and frightens the people of Hilltop Castles. The King sent countless heroes to the catacombs but all failed to succeed. Now its up to you to slay the dragon. You are the last remaining hero and have to fight through five worlds each divided into sub-levels. You have to defeat monsters and skeletons and a huge boss at the end of each world. The levels are grouped. When you die you have to start at the beginning of the group again. This can be a bit annoying, but luckily the level order is random so you always see another level when you restart. You get coins by defeated opponents and ruined castle furniture. You can use these coins to buy better weapons, armor and potions in a shop. You can buy your equipment with the help of InApp-purchases, but that is not necessary. The controls are typical for Ravenous Games and totally simple. You only have two arrow buttons to direct your hero, with two other buttons you can attack and jump.

My conclusion:
Devious Dungeon is a rock-solid retro platform title. The level design is good, the controls precisely and there are enough levels to keep you busy. The title has no major weaknesses , but also no great strengths. Those of you who know other Ravenous games, know what to expect here. I personally hope that Ravenous Games will risk a bit more for their next game and surprise us. -
