Flashout 2 is the successor of Flashout 3D, a Wipeout clone for mobile platforms which was published in Decembre 2012. The development studio behind the Flashout series is the Polish Jujubee team. Just as in the predecessor you race through futuristic tracks to become the number one of the racing scene.

The gameplay of Flashout 2 lets you race in best Wipeout- or F -Zero-style with hovering ships over science fiction tracks. Here you can use weapons such as missiles or mines, which you can collect on the track by Power Up. The developers included various control options into the game. So you can control your vehicle with a classic tilt control scheme or you use buttons or a virtual joystick. I decided for the version with a virtual analog stick, as I could handle my vehicle best with it. Heart of Flashout 2 is the career mode where you have to master ten racetracks in various racing events. The tracks lead you to Hong Kong, Frankfurt, LA, London or Seoul, but only the name reminds of the world's metropolises.

In terms of design, the developers have let their imaginations run wild and created fantastic sci-fi tracks with popular elements such as hairpins, jumps, acceleration arrows and high-speed passages. You have to take part in classic races, elimination races, time races or destruction races where you have to perform better than the competition. The various racing events are known from the predecessors and have now become standard in the racing genre. With ongoing playing time you can choose from different ships, which you can upgrade in various categories like speed, armor or weaponry. The money for this can be found on the tracks or via InApp purchase. The career mode features a few mini comic cutscenes that are nice but nothing more than a gimmick - there is no real story in the game. Unlike the predecessor you do not have to wait for a multiplayer mode in Flashout 2, this is built into the app right from the start. The races against other human players work really well and without noticeable delays.

My conclusion:
Flashout 2 is a good game, no question. The tracks look great, the speed is ultrafast and the complexity of the game is sufficient. In addition, the developers have improved the intelligence of the computer opponents and built a well-working multi-player mode. But the game still didn't catch me. This may be due to two reasons. First, the developers have improved the controls significantly compared to its predecessor and in particular optimized the sensitivity of the tilt control. Nevertheless, I personally don't get a good feedback from the vehicles as I do in other modern racing games like Riptide GP2, Asphalt 8 or Real Racing 3. Secondly, Flashout 2 just lacks in terms of atmosphere and wow moments. To this end, the different tracks just play too similar and there is too little new in the game compared to its predecessor. But maybe you like Flashout 2 more than I do, so please write your opinion about the game into the comments. -
