Bug Heroes 2 is a new strategy-action-mix from indie developer Foursaken Media. The predecessor of Bug Heroes 2 was released in 2011. The gameplay of Bug Heroes is a mix of a shooter and a tower defense game enriched with some RPG elements. Bug Heroes 2 is available for 89 cents for iOS. An Android version does not exist.
Just like in the predecessor you controll two beetles on a battlefield. Before each mission you can decide for two bugs. When the game starts you have exactly two beetles to choose from, as the game progresses you can unlock up to 25 beetles with different strengths and weaknesses. Alternatively, you can unlock all bugs by InApp purchases. In the game you control your bugs with a classic shooter control through the missions. Your main task in each level is to defend your base. In addition to the classic "I shoot all enemies" principle , there are also some tactical components in the game. With a button-tap you can switch between your two beetles back and forth. With a double tap you can order your second beetle to a specific location on the map. With another button you can call your teammate back to your side - or you can let him hold his position.
There are certain points at your base and on the map where you can also build towers to strike the attacking insects back. Of course, there are different types of defense towers, which depending on their abilities also differ in their costs. You have to collect the ressources for the towers in the missions first. In addition, you will receive skill points as you progress through the game, which you can use to upgrade some properties of your bug. With food that lies in each level you can heal your wounded beetle. In the single player mode there are not only numerous great designed missions, but there is als an endless mode where you can fight wave after wave and a skirmish-mode where you fight base against base. In addition Bug Heroes 2 features a multiplayer mode, where you can play cooperatively or competite with other players.
My conclusion:
Bug Heroes 2 is a great action game that scores with a fresh game concept and great graphics. The game is rounded by a very entertaining multiplayer-mode. The mix of shooter and tower defense elements with an interesting bugs vs. insects setting is fun pure. The controls are very convincing too and that for a small price of 89 cents. Even the InApp-purchases are of no consequence. At the beginning the game seems to be a bit complex, but thanks to the good tutorial levels you will feel at home soon. I can recommend Bug Heroes 2 strongly. Have you already played Bug Heroes 2? Please write your oppinion of the game into the comments. -
