AR Game Design: No Surface Scan in InnoVegas AR BlackJack - Usability
In this video, I talked about a design choice in the game InnoVegas AR Blackjack Casino. The advantages and disadvantages of deciding not to use a surface scan in this game.
As you can see in this video, the game move when I move and I have the option to reset the game location at any time so the dealer is facing me.
Now, this has a negative impact on the AR experience in terms of immersion and makes the scene appear less real like it's not actually a part of the real world. This is a "No No" for many AR apps, but of course it depends on the type of game you are developing and how you approach solving some usability to help achieve certain enjoyment and satisfaction from using the game in augmented reality and accessibility, which related to the way certain people with disabilities or people who prefer playing the game without bringing restricted can play the game, so everyone can enjoy playing it at any time no matter where they are and who they are..
Of course, there is always the option to design this AR game in a way that it offers users the option to choose the way you want to play, with the game positioned on a surface or as it is now by default, anchored to the camera location in a certain distance and orientation.
It's an interesting topic that leads some game designers to choose between the two or offer both options.
