ARASHI CASTLES OF SIN Gameplay & First Impressions // Stealthy, Shinobi VR Action for PSVR
Arashi Castles of Sin is one of several new PSVR games 2021 has provided us after a long period of inactivity from Sony's VR headset. This stealthy shinobi story set in feudal Japan tasks players with jumping into the shoes of a VR ninja / VR shinobi and taking down 6 tyranical Oni who rule different areas of the land. Equipped with a full arsenal of stealthy & close combat melee weapons it's up to you to decide whether you want to strike from the shadows or get up close and personal with the enemies for some one on one combat. During my time with Arashi Castles of Sin VR I found the gameplay loop to be both rewarding and versatile at times and then downright clumsy and clunky at others, the game shines brightest when you're taking down enemies from afar and chaining together a variety of equipment to dispatch foes but things become much less satisfying when the one on one sword fights take centre stage. The real star of the show here is Haru, your trusty wolf companion who can be instructed to pin down enemies, distract foes & dig for hidden treasure. She's a huge highlight of the gameplay loop & gives the game a much needed dose of character and charm.
If you're looking for a reason to hop back into PSVR then Arashi Castles of Sin VR will provide you will an enjoyable, if a little clunky, VR experience that runs a decent length. I do however hope that Arashi Castles of Sin sees a Quest or PC VR release at some point down the line as I can't help but feel the PSVR move controllers contributed quite heavily to the clumsiness of the close quarters combat.
