REVOMON, THE NEW POKEMON VR? // Cryptocurrency Meets VR on Oculus Quest 2
331Pokemon VR was an incredibly popular, fan-made recreation of the classic Pokemon games, built from the ground up for VR headsets! The only problem was the fact it was unofficial and Nintendo LOVE to shut down anything unofficial, so Pokemon VR was unceremoniously killed off. However from the ashes of Pokemon VR the devs have now created Revomon, a brand new VR RPG for Oculus Quest headsets & PC VR that allows players to battle, capture & train a whole host of unique creatures (well... unique-ish, those Zelda clones aren't fooling anyone) in an open world that's constantly evolving & growing. The game also has a big twist... Revomon is also tied to a Cryptocurrency, REVO, and the game allows players to connect their Trust Wallet and auction off owned Revomon like NFT's on the blockchain... I'm unsure if anything I said made any sense at all but let's check out Revomon VR & see if this cryptocurrency Pokemon VR game is worth checking out?

Having spent a decent chunk of time with the Pokemon VR Oculus Quest 2 release I was sad to see the game closed down, it felt very rough but definitely showed promise, catching recognisable Pokemon in VR and battling them in locations lovingly recreated from the original games was a great experience & the game also allowed for a great social escape as you could chat and adventure with fellow trainers on the same server. Recapturing that magic with Revomon is bound to be a difficult task, the creatures here are decently designed but lack that immediate recognisable nostalgia boost that actual Pokemon give to players. The systems and gameplay mechanics here are almost identical to Pokemon VR so anyone with previous experience there will feel right at home, albeit this Alpha version feels far more buggy & WIP than Pokemon VR felt towards the end. Ultimately the gameplay loop in Revomon is a simple setup of catch, fight, train, capture, repeat with the added alure of being able to actually auction off your captured creatures to other players who want to engage with the Crypto nature of the game.
Personally I can't figure out why anyone would purchase a creature that they could simply catch themselves and in it's currently Alpha state I would advise a little caution against engaging with the games NFT/Crypto systems, the security for one felt lacking when I setup my account only to be told I had to use ONLY lowercase letters and no special characters... Revomon might just be the new Pokemon VR but it's still got a long way to go to get there!
