Firewatch, one of the best story heavy walking simulators of the past few years, is now fully playable in VR thanks to the Firewatch VR mod from Raicuparta. This Firewatch VR gameplay was captured from the most recent release of the Firewatch VR mod which is still very much a work in progress, this is currently version 0.0.5 so there's a long way to go before this has all the bugs and performance issues worked out but right now it's still a great way to experience one of my favourite stories and atmospheres in gaming. Let's take a look at some Firewatch VR gameplay & please keep in mind this is an early version, the mod is currently quite performance intensive so the capture is fairly choppy at points, particularly in the ranger station lookout hub area.

Firewatch originally launched back in 2016 when VR was still very much in it's commercial infancy, it's a broody, atmospheric, mystery that pulls players in with some fantastic dialogue and genuinely likeable/believeable characters. The world of Firewatch is also gorgeous, an almost cel shaded looking national park is yours to explore as you carry out tasks within the wilderness to keep the park safe and solve the mysteries that start to stack up over the course of your time here. These kind of walking simulators always felt like they would translate beautifully into VR, games like Gone Home or What Remains of Edith Finch are perfect contenders for VR conversion as they have a slower pace and emphasis on exploration over fast paced reflexes and action sequence. Exploring the world of Firewatch in VR is a wonderful experience but it isn't QUITE ready for wide scale release, the performance will likely be the biggest issue for most players as the game pushes even the most impressive of PCs to the limit in the opening sections & hub area (which you return to all the time).
