Armored Core - PlayStation 1 - Intro & Gameplay opening missions [4K60]
From Software took over a decade to build up their reputation as a leading Japanese developer. Starting with the fantasy King's Field series on PS1. Before creating Armored Core a 3D Mech Simulator, while the original game in the series is rather flawed, clunky to control and graphically looked dated even on release. Under the rough exterior of the game was a true diamond. This is an all action mecha blaster, with all the gameplay touches you expect from, From Software.
While this lacked the pace of Gamearts mecha title Gungriffon released on Saturn at around the same. Armored Core allowed for more control and customisation and featured far more depth in mission structure and content. It's easy to see why From Software became mecha game masters as the series went from strength to strength.
Complete mission to earn cash then, use that to improve and customise your AC to you gameplay style. While the default unit will see you through the opening missions, it will quickly become out dated and require upgrading as you start to face enemy AC. All to a great techno and rock & roll soundtrack. While From Software have always been slow to address issues in franchises, they did sort out the controls for the later PS2 games in the series.
The Armored Core series has also had a bit of a rocky western release with some instalments not getting released at all in Europe. While others have been buried by publishers or giving a very limited release, Armored Core 2 Another Age also had key content removed from it in Europe. It's a shame as Armored Core as a series should be as well known and praised as King's Field, which these days goes under the name of Dark Souls.
Captured from the Japanese version of the game for 60Hz gameplay, we also have the European version. Menus run at around 60fps, in-game the frame rate changes per the different elements.
