[ARMORED CORE: VI FIRES OF RUBICON] Crimson rookie
Never played a mech single player game before. Tried one of those free to play multiplayer ones though.
This is fun: fast, dangerous, customizable. Though the mech parts themselves have miniscule changes. I hope that as the game goes on, I'll have more options on what I should go with. Currently It's mostly to diversify, close range, missiles, long range. Tank tracks seem super niche, and the hover seems like a sitting duck. Though it would've been quite useful for the first real boss, as I had to get behind him fast. For now: melee is free usage, other weapons should be used sparingly, meaning more damage per shot. Though it was said, can't see any indication that there is difference in laser, kinetic and explosive damage. Apart from the ricochet mechanic.
Don't see the point of buying and selling parts, as it's in a 1 to 1 ratio. Should've just been a single assembly system, where you get the overview price of your mech and that's it. The only nice usage is during mid mission you want to change your mech, then you can only change parts depending on what you've bought. But that's super niche. I think taking away the ability to buy and sell, and only keeping assembly would've outweighed any strategic decision making prevalent. Especially as it seems like this isn't really merc simulator(can lose lots of money when missions go wrong), like the older games were, more like stage based instance missions(where you can only gain money, and can redo and reset to your liking).
Just like Fromsoft likes to do with the Souls games: it's very story light. Mostly living on the themes and scenario, then lore or compelling narrative. I do dig the inhuman approach to merc life. One mission you're helping one side, the other you're against them. Though everyone is faceless, so quite forgettable.
