One of my favorite games for the GBA and a darned difficult one too. Another gem from Treasure, the same company that brought us Gunstar Heroes, Gunstar Super Heroes, Alien Soldier, Mischief Makers, Dynamite Headdy, Silhouette Mirage, Guardian Heroes and Advance Guardian Heroes.

I played this game like CRAZY back in 2008~2010 alongside Megaman Zero series, so yeah, this is definitely around the Top 10 "top-of-my-head" games list. I even had videos recorded in this very channel but deleted because the quality aged well like milk.

Astro Boy mixes beat 'em up with shoot 'em up really well, and on the Easy and Normal difficulties this game isn't anything scary, but once you start playing on Hard... oh boy, you're in for a world of pain.

As per Treasure tradition the game starts off fairly innocuous teaching you the ropes and throwing one or two difficulty spikes to make sure to keep you on your toes, but on Hard there's no such thing, the game starts off by throwing instant kill moves on bosses from Stage freaking 1.

Two of the most important things to learn in this game to make it far on this difficulty:

1) Kick (Up + Attack) is an amazing crowd control. Red and Purple enemies are immune to flinching, so watch out.

2) Jet, or Dash, (double jump + direction, or double tap forward or backward) is your best friend. Astro is vulnerable during the initial animation when he's spinning, but he's completely invincible for the duration of his jet dash.

The first level is nothing really scary, it does a decent job of teaching you the controls and types of enemies letting you test and play defensively or aggressively as much as you want. At least until the boss of the level: Magnamite.

Magnamite does 20k with his moves and unless you upgrade your Life you'll be dealing with a 2 hit point Astro facing this behemoth. And Magnamite's body press attack is an instant kill move at 30k Life, it's Treasure's way to say "We ain't playing around on this difficulty, boyo."

I'll be going for the true ending which means getting most of the characters along the way. Some of them are pretty darn well hidden and my memory is kind of fussy about their locations but I'll try to get as many as possible, not only to show how to but the make my life less miserable since this game is relentless in its difficulty especially after the first loop.

On a last note there's a reason of why I'm pumping up the Laser stat so much and I'll go more on about it on the next stage...
