The most beautiful cel-shaded game ever?

Auto Modellista is a bit of an interesting racer. While it markets itself almost primerly to the arcade audience and Ridge Racer fans like myself it is clear the developers had a greater focus in the technical side of racing instead. Quite frankly I think it is because of the sharp contrast of the cartoon, anime, visuals compared to deeper realistic driving that the game isn't capable of impressing on all levels.

It is safe to say that Auto Modellista is one of the most beautiful racers on Playstation 2. This has the best cel-shaded visuals I've ever seen and it constantly runs at a fast sixty frames throughout. Though there are some odd presentation quirks. In particular I didn't like the announcer or music. Both sounded as if they'd been pulled straight out of Marvel vs Capcom 2 and really didn't suit Auto Modellista's atmosphere.

Regardless, this game is really cheap now. If you're open-minded about what you want out of your racers I think there is a good amount of enjoyment to be experienced from Auto Modellista. This isn't a very long game and there aren't that many cars either, besides being a very easy game, but it definitely has high production values and is a polished product all in all. Give it a try I say.
