Remember back when Konami used to make great games? Well believe it or not once upon a time they did and here's one of them!

Axelay is side scrolling/vertical shooter for the Super Nintendo and arguably one of the finest shmups you will find on the system. Axelay was released in 1992 relatively early on the consoles lifecycle and features some of the finest graphics and sound found on the SNES.

You take control of Axelay! Earths final hope at repelling an invading alien race! You know the usual 90's shmup doomsday story. Starting out you have access to just 3 different weapon types and unlock more as the game progresses. Weapons are selected at the beginning of each stage and some are more useful than others depending on the stage you are currently on. The games bosses are huge and the levels can get really chaotic with only the occasional hint of slow down. A real jewel in the Super Nintendo's crown and a reminder that long ago Konami DID make good games.
