Baldur's Gate 2 Legacy of Bhaal Difficulty Guide Part 4 - Trademeet and De'Arnise Keep
Now that we've completed all the easy quests in Athkatla it's time to handle more challenging quests. Firstly, we should complete Hendak's quest from the previous video and free the slaves. Making our way to the Slaver's Den via the sewers allows us to complete the sewers riddle quest and secure Lilarcor, a sentient two-handed sword that works well for Keldorn in the early game. Defeating the slavers is no great challenge, especially when using Animate Dead to support. Once the slaves are freed we get an additional reputation point and it's time to leave Athkatla to continue our adventures. Before we leave, however, we must secure the Greater Malison spell for Nalia, as it will be essential in an upcoming fight. This grants Jaheira enough experience to hit Fighter level 9, and she grabs specialization in Scimitars
Moving on to Trademeet, we can complete the Animal Troubles quest, but first we should steal the Efreeti Bottle from Taquee. This powerful item summons a genie for one turn which has access to a great spell list and will come in handy throughout the saga. As we progress the quest we make our way to the Druid Grove, stopping to have Valygar stealthily acquire Belm. Belm is a powerful scimitar that grants an additional attack per round and will be a weapon of choice for Jaheira for the rest of the saga. Before the entrance to Faldorn's cave will be a trio of Shadow Druids lead by Dalok. Defeating them allows us to loot the Burning Earth, a longsword with fire damage that will helpful against trolls.
On to Faldorn herself, Jaheira challenges her to a dual, but not before casting Iron Skin on herself. Our strategy for this fight is to disrupt Faldorn's spellcasting via Insect Plague, which causes damage over time and potentially spell failure. We'll increase the effectiveness of Insect Plague by combining it with the slow effect from Dolorous Decay. Slow not only reduces Armor, Thac0 and attack speed but also affects casting time, allowing more instances of damage rendering Faldorn's spellcasting effectively blocked. Once Faldorn's offensive power is shut down we can summon a Nymph to cast Hold Person and paralyze her. Jaheira can shapeshift to a Brown Bear and defeat her easily.
Moving on to our next quest we head to de'Arnise Keep, as per Nalia's request. We face down the trolls there using Burning Earth and make our way to the upper floors where we encounter a charmed Glaicus. Keldorn can easily dispel the charm and Galicus will grant us one of the heads for the Flail of Ages. The Flail of Ages is a powerful weapon for Darksbane, particularly once his grandmastery in Flails returns upon reaching Cleric Level 10. This weapon has a 33% chance of applying Slow which will be invaluable throughout the remainder of the saga.
Finally, it's on to Torgal the leader of the trolls. Torgal has powerful attacks and is immune to many status effects. He vulnerable to Polymorph however his saves are very high. To counter this we'll use Greater Malison and Doom to lower his saving throws before casing Polymorph Other. Nalia can use stealth to aggro Torgal without drawing the attention of the two other trolls and then we can use a summon to hold Torgal's aggro while shutting the door behind him. Once the combination of Greater Malison, Doom, and Polymorph other are successful then we use the elemental damage from Flail of Ages to kill him and secure victory.
