Lightning Charges are a new mechanic introduced in Patch 7 of Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access. They give the character a +1 bonus to hit, 1 lightning damage with each attack and if you get to 5 charges, then an extra 1d8 lightning damage as well.

Most of the new items only build lightning charges in combat, but if you're willing to sacrifice some summons, then you can build some up just before a fight starts to give your characters an edge!

Do keep in mind that Baldur's Gate 3 is still in early access and so the features shown in the video are subject to change and the game is incomplete, so expect more to be added to the game in the future. At time of recording the game was still in Early Access Patch 7, and by the time of the full release of Baldur's Gate 3 things may have changed.
