Now here's a game that is often forgotten and overlooked, but really shouldn't be. Being developed by the same people who brought you Soulstar (Soul Star), this game is a pretty impressive mech-sim that clearly shows where Soulstar got a lot of its visual stylings from, as it was made before it. It's also where Soulstar got its steep challenge curve too, as this game is not a piece of cake.

The story of Battlecorps is not particularly interesting or surprising. Powerful weapons powered by "Super Fission" reactors are being created on a misbegotten planet known as "Mandlebrot" (or Mandlebrot's World), located eight light years from Earth. At the core of the reactors is a rare, extraterrestrial element known as Meridium, which was discovered by the Interplanetary Mining Corporation (IMC) on Mandlebrot. Eventually, a colony settles on the planet manned mostly by a small team of miners using the latest robotics defense machines - the Battlebots.

Everything is going smoothly until MOSES (Multicameral Organic Synergistic Energized System), the colony's bio-computerized operating system, is infected with a virus by a saboteur from a rival mining company, BioMechanical Incorporated (BioMech). Chaos erupts and MOSES turns the Battlebots on the colonists, imprisoning them and turning Mandlebrot into a heavily armed fortress.

IMC dispatches the Battlecorps (combat-hardened verterans of the Corporate Wars) with Armodillo-Class, Bipedal Attack Machines (BAMs) to rescue the colonists and save the planet. You can choose from three heroes who each have different characteristics and start with different ammounts of ammunition. The game doesn't present any new power-ups, but you start with a decent amount.

The graphics are very vibrant and the framerate is okay until lots of action starts up. The music is very good and the object of the game is simple: Just reach the elevators at the end of each level to get closer to MOSES. The problem is that you will get attacked like crazy and you'll need to get used to the controls if you want to even survive the first level. There are power strips on the levels that restore your health but they don't restore your ammunition, so use it wisely. Enjoy.

Game starts around 4:35
