Welcome, my friends to my first look at Bayonetta (PC) gameplay and review for New Release Friday in glorious 60 fps. Now, you can call me a cheater because technically Bayonetta came out years ago, but it IS in the New Releases section of Steam and that is generally my qualification for NRF. I am still sort of a cheater, but fuck you here is my Bayonetta (PC) gameplay and review.

Also, I mentioned a Twitch link: https://www.twitch.tv/Delicroix

This episode was asked for by a friend of mine and I told him (jokingly) that he had to buy the game for me if he wanted it featured on New Release Friday. All of a sudden I was yanked out of my CSGO match to a window that said I had received a gift copy of the game Bayonetta. Now, prior to this he has asked me to do it and I didn’t say whether I would or not and had just planned to make it a surprise, but hey, I will take a free game any day of the week. He didn’t tell me it was a port of a 7+ year old game, but that is fine since I think it is a good idea to look at a PC port for New Release Friday to inform you guys. That is probably why he wanted me to do a Bayonetta (PC) gameplay and review, because he never trusts any ports and just wanted me to be a guinea pig. Either that or he knew that it was hilariously awesome and wanted to see what I thought of it. Regardless, I am excited to be putting out some gameplay and a review of both the port and Bayonetta itself.

First off, what the fuck is NRF? New Release Friday is a series in which (hopefully) every week I will hop over to the “New Releases” section of Steam and pick-up a game to play for a few hours and give a first-thought review on. This series is an attempt to not only keep content fresh and relevant around the channel by covering current games in a concise and genuine fashion, but also to offer exposure to new games via a relaxed review format to inform potential, unsure buyers. Check out the playlist for more!

During this episode of New Release Friday we are going to be focusing our Bayonetta (PC) gameplay and review on the port quality more than the game quality. The gameplay definitely revolves around me and the game, but I mostly do this exposition for the sake of entertainment and because I actually have to play the game if I want to review it. We will touch lightly on the gameplay in this first paragraph. Bayonetta has never been explained to me in the past, so I didn’t really know what to expect other than small bits of what I had read. I knew it was a hack and slash and figured it was pretty shallow and dull, but was VERY pleasantly surprised by the amount of content Bayonetta has to offer and the amount of unique personality it has. The cut scenes are a bit drug out, but it shows that it actually cares about the story it is trying to tell in the most extravagant fashion. The flair of this game just shines everywhere and it is obvious the developers weren’t ashamed of that fact. Additionally, Bayonetta has no lack of enjoyable gameplay; just about anything you do makes you feel like a bad ass (I can’t imagine not playing this in 60 fps though because of the pace) and there are several expansive ways to keep the gameplay fresh including new weapons, attack styles, items, etc.

Now, the more important question during this Bayonetta (PC) gameplay and review: is the Bayonetta port good? It feels like every other game that comes around nowadays is a bad port and it has made the market uneasy. Luckily, I can say with confidence that this PC port is good. The framerate is 60 fps solid and I only got a few small stutters and skips in random spots. Additionally, the visuals are great. After finding out that the original launch of Bayonetta was in 2009, I was super impressed by the graphical fidelity of the PC port. A lot of ports also suffer from stability issues which I had none of during the entire 3 hour play period of Bayonetta (PC); no crashes, no glitches, no bugs. Stepping back to the graphics for a second, let’s talk about the graphics settings compared to a lot of other ports. We actually have options for anti-aliasing other than just on and off, we have a SSAO options, a slew of resolutions, Vsync adjustments, and more. A lot of times we will see a PC port skimp in this department, but it is nice to see that some adjustments were given to Bayonetta’s PC fans. Since it is an older game and is decently optimized it is quite easy to maintain 60 fps even at max graphics settings and a high resolution.

Last thing we will talk about briefly in our Bayonetta (PC) gameplay and review before rounding off this NRF is the controls. They are CRISPY. Yet another place where a PC port sees criticisms is how the controls translate. No issues here at all, everything works flawlessly with the controller of your choice. I dunno about mouse and keyboard but why would you want to play Bayonetta with that anyway? Overall, I can’t recommend the Bayonetta PC port enough. Just do yourself a favor and get it.
