Description:
The king of Ildria was overthrown in a coup and was replaced by Ry'jin, a madman who covets the power of dragons. To that end, he kidnapped and killed all but one dragon to power his Vulcan Cannon, which he uses to rule Ildria with an iron fist. As the last free dragon, Az'uar must obtain the Soul Gems of the Great Seven, granting him the power he needs to make a stand against Ry'jin so he can free his siblings and save Ildria.

Upon further examination, it's actually possible and preferable to beat Ry'jin with rune combos. Normally, one would think to use non-rune skills to slowly whittle down Ry'jin, since he dickishly destroyed all the runes in the inventory. However, his minions will always produce three runes upon being rune sealed. Combine that with Xandra's Rainbow Palette and you can easily farm Omni Runes.
Az'uar should equip Essence Filter for this fight rather than Lung Crusher. Since it's easy to accidentally kill the enemy, you may have to convert Az'uar's HP into runes if you don't have enough. Additionally, if you can consistently kill the minion before Ry'jin can get his turn, he won't have time to interrupt Az'uar's inhalation.
I didn't notice this until looking through the game files, but Ry'jin can actually change his element in this battle based on the color orb he's holding. However, he seems to only do so if he isn't wasting his turns reviving his minion. He'll start out as an earth type, so if you can prevent him from changing his element, he'll always be weak to air.
