Beethoven Septet in E-flat major, Op.20
Beethoven's sublime Septet for violin, viola, cello, bass, clarinet, bassoon, and french horn was dedicated to the Empress Maria Theresa, and premiered alongside his First Symphony in 1800.
It's a very unique mix of contrasting qualities, a chamber music work with symphonic elements, light-hearted and playful short movements with majestic slow introductions in the outer movements, an exuberantly interactive piece throughout that throws a surprising violin cadenza in the home stretch. It is a work that has been celebrated and embraced from its birth and continues to be so by listeners and musicians all over the world for more than 200 years. Hope you enjoy this performance of mine with the score alongside of this masterpiece.
