Sound it Out is a creative experiment where I look at a piece of visual art and come up with a tune on the violin on the spot to describe it.
It is very exciting that I've been invited by Shoreline Arts Alliance to sound out the winners' works of their Images 2020 award. (an annual photography award) And they share my Sound it Out clips at the winner's announcement reception with all the attendees, over Zoom. :)
Cheefai Chow's 1973 New York City is one of the winners of Images 2020. Because of my advantage of understanding the language, I actually "told a story" in my description. I started the Sound it Out by imitating the words on the violin that's at the top left corner on Chow's photograph, which says "year 1973, April..." And then transitioned into the musical description of image, the tone, texture, and the possible story I imagine of the photograph when I saw it.
