Beginner Guide Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTGA)
Beginner's Guide to Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTGA)
I'd like to mention that because I already do deck tech videos that this video will not be deck building related. This video will also not be about how to be a better player. If you want me to make a deck building guide then please let me know in the comment section and I'll be sure to get on that.
1st things first, I'm very confident you can play Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTGA) 100% F2P provided you get better at the game as time goes by.
I'm not considered F2P because I initially bought into the game to support the devs but after that initial investment I haven't spent anymore money
because I've been winning and part of winning in this game is that you get tons of free cards and gold to help further your collection.
I recommend that you complete any and all the tutorials because they'll help you learn the mechanics of the software
and game so that you aren't just flapping in the wind.
when you first start
You're given some free packs and some wild cards at the very start of the game. Feel Free to Open the packs,
but I highly recommend that if you're a newer player to Magic: The Gathering or even an intermediate player
that you hold off on using the wild cards, mainly because you should get a good understanding of the meta
that's currently being played. Just because your local store or moto plays a heavy mix of control or aggro doesn't mean
that the players in Magic: The Gathering Arena will do the same. A huge mistake people make when playing this game is rushing
to build a certain type of deck and or certain type of cards and end up regretting it later because wild cards allow you to make any card of it's rarity.
Another really good reason to hold off on using these wild cards is because standard is always rotating so...
I highly recommend that you look online and find out what sets are staying and what sets are rotating out.
As of the making of this video the sets that are about to rotate as of October 5 2018 are going to be Kaladesh, Aether Revolt, Amonkhet, Hour of Devastation, and
the nifty Welcome Deck 2017.
The sets that are staying in after the rotation are Ixalan, Rivals of ixalan, Dominaria, Core set 2019, and the newest set that will be coming out Guilds of Ravnica
This is all suppose to happen around October 5 2018.
Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTGA) has announced that they'll have a type of "extended" Format
But I can't vouch for what sort of payoffs that it'll have so I highly recommend if you're just getting into
Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTGA) that you focus on the sets staying in after the rotation happens.
I understand that some of the Top Tier decks require cards from sets that are going to be rotating out but you
need to decide whether it's worth the cost to build those cards/buy the packs now so that you can earn more gold
to buy more packs later. I for one did this method about a month ago and I've earned about 30k gold after taking away my initial investment.
I also play the game quite often so it's kind of a risk vs reward thing. If you're a new player I recommend that you don't do this because you may not get your
initial investment back.
Lets get into the different types of Game Modes / Leagues that you can enter.
Competitive constructed is exactly that, it's extremely competitive and people normally only play Top Tier Net Decks in this league.
Unlike the Quick Constructed league which is best of 1 this league is best of 3 so after each game you get to sideboard and you're only allowed up to 2 losses before
your run ends.
I don't really pay attention to what the max rewards are in leagues, Instead I pay attention to how many wins I'll need in order to make my investment back.
I recommend that you don't enter this league unless you're an intermediate player who often goes 5-7 wins inside the quick constructed league.
I know the rewards in this league are crazy at 5 wins and you only need to win 2 rounds in order to make your initial investment back with some interest,
But it feelsbadman when you lose 2 matches due to RNG or because you thought your deck was good enough but it simply can't hang with all the other Tier 1 decks that people are using.
I've entered this league and lost 2 matches right off the bat and ended up thinking to myself that i could've used that gold to buy a pack instead.
Competitive Draft
This league uhhh... Yeah... In a nut shell, It's the biggest risk vs reward league you can enter.
You start by opening 1 of the 3 packs you're given and out of the 15 cards you see, it's highly recommended that you take the "best" card out of the pack. The best card isn't always going to be a rare or Mythic.
Sometimes it's a common. After you pick your 1 card out of that pack you pass it and receive a pack from a different player but this time it'll have 14 cards in it. You do the same thing in this pack and you'll
Description was to long sorry, I couldn't add it all in.
