BEST Ways to Re-Introduce a NPC Into Your D&D Game| GM 911

Hey, I've been DMing for about six months now. I run about 4 games and play in 2 more.
Anyways, I was wondering, what is a good way to reintroduce forgotten NPCs or to lure the PCs back into meeting up with them. I have two in mind, a tiefling wizard whom the party met in the Abyss, and a transportation wizard who had sent the party on jobs for him before. The tiefling in is her home country fighting in a magic arena and i'm planning on the party finding the transportation wizard dead, as he was killed by the just recently slain villain. I'm trying to stay away from just the party being mailed or reminding them outside of game.
