After my basic economy tutorial for Beyond All Reason I want to give you an example of how you can put your knowledge directly into practice for a match winning move without actually having to learn how to fight with units.
Credit for this build and match goes to dksnowie96 who starts off with building two metal extractors on the popular All that Glitters map and in the corner which isn’t exactly a spot in which you should be doing an economy build but supporting your frontline. This is a risky build which does indeed pay off in this match.
You might think you can pull this off using the other faction, Cortex but due to more expensive wind turbines which cost more metal, Armada is the optimal faction to use for this build. And since it is the faction you should play as a beginner it is perfect for this tutorial as well. But I have to mention that the nuclear missile of the Cortex faction has a 50% larger area of effect when it explodes, so there is that considerable trade off between speed of the build and its effectiveness.
Now you are probably wondering where will the tech level 2 constructor come from? It actually comes from the player right next door who is the designated economy player for this match and plays in the correct spot on the map. It was his job to get to tech level 2 constructor production and then gift his T2 constructors to other players who can pay in metal for this gift.
However this nuke build doesn’t actually allow for metal payments, as it is very greedy, requiring every scrap of metal and energy to be this fast. Some of those scraps come from the map itself and those big rocks that hold a few hundred metal and are spread around the starting map locations.
It is at 10:48 of this match that the Armageddon ICBM nuclear launcher is completed and I consider this to be a very fast build. If you know of any faster ones please send me a replay of such matches or tell me your record times in the comments below.
The other team probably planned on anti-nuke systems at about 14 minutes into the match so getting hit at 13:20 was a nasty surprise. This basically is a match winning move, despite the risks involved. In this particular match, in which I was playing the frontline we would have lost without this nuclear attack.
