How To Vlog On The GoPro Hero 9 Best Settings For Using The Built In Microphones - 5K Video
In this video I'm explaining some technical stuff about the internal microphones on the GoPro Hero9 Black and explaining the differences between an omni or omnidirectional microphone and a cardioid microphone.
I also explain the best way to deal with the internal microphones when vlogging with the GoPro Hero9 Black when not using an external vlogging microphone.
In a nutshell. The top mic is omni and records to track 1 or the left channel/track and the front mic is probably omni but does exhibit cardioid characteristics as it does have a directional response. The front microphone is recorded to channel 2 or the right hand track of the stereo recording that the Hero9 records.
In post I only use the right channel which is the front mic and throw away the left channel. I then centre the right channel into the stereo field/mix and gain it up. For gaining I use a limiter, this gets the audio quite a bit louder than what the Hero9 records the signal and also makes it a bit more punchy. You can use whatever means to gain the channel that you prefer and you could also sweeten the sound with EQ etc. I'd suggest a bass roll off which will help a little with clarity of the dialogue and will also help a little to reduce rumble and low frequencies from unwanted sound sources.
This is a 5K Video, it has been recorded in 5K by the GoPro Hero9 Black and edited in 5K with the YouTube uploaded video also in 5K. To get the full benefit of the resolution of the Hero9 in 5K and this video, choose the YouTube 5K video stream for playback. Even if you don't have a 5K or 8K monitor, TV or playback device, playing back the 5K YouTube stream, or the highest YouTube video stream resolution you can, will give you the best picture quality and playback resolution.
Here are the video and picture settings used for the GoPro Hero 9 Black in this video.
Resolution = 5K
Frame Rate = 25FPS (Frames Per Second)
Lens = Linear
Hypersmooth = Hypersmooth 3.0 and Boost
Bit Rate = High
Shutter = Auto
EV Comp = 0
White Balance = Automatic
ISO Minimum = 100
ISO Maximum = 400
Sharpness = High
Color = GoPro Flat
To grade or correct the GoPro Flat gamma response I've used the Primary Color Corrector tool inside Edius X. I just use a simple decode/correction as an average look for the clips the apply it to all the clips, I don't apply a different 'look' to each clip.
