21Edius X Problems and Bugs - Consolidate Project Does Not Work Properly - Edius Changes Clip Names
In this video I'm showing a bug with Edius X NLE video editing software that has been around for a very long time with previous versions of Edius. This problem with Edius X is very specifically to the Consolidate Project function.
During a consolidation Edius X re-names all the source video clips and other types of media and assets you've used in your project. These could be stills and titles that were generated in another program, maybe Photoshop etc.
So why is this issue with Edius X so bad? Because outside of Edius' own project bin structure nothing else will be able to reference those files after the consolidation.
For instance. Let's say that you were using something to color grade your Edius video files, let's say BlackMagic Design DaVinci Resolve. Also, let's say that you had been doing any effects work, say with Adobe After Effects. In fact, let's just say any post production program that was also referencing your video files and other media files by their original names. After Edius has consolidated the project and media, anything that was addressing the video and media files by their original names will no longer be able to do so.
You will now have a very messy and laborious time trying to relink the media files. In certain instances, depending on how large the media count is and if Edius has further split media, then this re-linking may become next to impossible due to the sheer amount of time that will be wasted in the process.
Also as mentioned in the video. On long form projects and movie/film projects you may be working with media and physical media bins and media storage drives that all reference to a master shot log. This shot log will be used by everyone at every stage from shoot to post. In these instances it is not uncommon to at least use a tradition reel based architecture and you will always use some form of log reference for every shot/clip. Whether these shot logs and refences are done as slates, takes, scenes or any meaningful file description, you will lose all that naming structure after an Edius consolidation.
I will be producing more videos about Edius by Grass Valley. Some of these will be Edius tutorial videos that cover very specific aspects of Edius and Edius X. Some videos will be showing Edius in practical working and editing scenarios and other videos will show other problems and bugs with Edius X and previous versions of Edius.
While Edius is my favourite NLE and is very powerful, I would non the less advise caution if you are thinking about upgrading to Edius X from a previous version of Edius or if you are thinking of migrating from another NLE to Edius X.
