When playing GRIN's 2009 Bionic Commando reboot for the first time this week I was immediately fascinated and entertained by the grappling hook mechanic. It's true that we've seen similar features in games like Just Cause 2 and the latest Spiderman titles, but BC's learning curve is much steeper and doesn't make the swinging ability come off as a power fantasy-esque "press X to win" gimmick. Much like Mirror's Edge (also developed by a Swedish studio), there's some actual skill involved in the fast-paced traversal mechanics and stringing together swings with good timing feels very satisfying indeed.
