Bit vLog #61 - Console Exclusives
Back when I was a child, the main reason you'd buy a console was because of exclusives. Sure there were a few cross-platform games, but there were very clear divides between what games you'd get on what consoles.
Now, that's not really the case. You get the occasional one or two titles grabbing the headlines, like the recent announcement Street Fighter V would be exclusive to PS4 and PC only. Or during the summer the internet erupted when Microsoft announced that the next game in the Tomb Raider franchise, Rise of the Tomb Raider, would be a Xbox exclusive. (Which it was quickly reveled to be only a "timed exclusive".) But other than that exclusives seem to be just a few first party games nowadays. The only console that does do exclusives in a big way is the Wii U - and that's because third parties won't develop for it.
So why have exclusive games been benched as a primary selling point for consoles? And when did PCs sneak in under the radar?
