Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena Game Sample - PC
41"Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena" is the PC/Steam version of "Blade Arcus from Shining EX" with added online lobbies. It is based on "Shining Blade" and " Shining Hearts", two titles within Sega's long running "Shining" series of RPGs, Strategy and Action games, which, sadly, haven't been localized proper outside Japan for a long time... even this game has a basic story mode which barely even tries to give any insight to the characters for those meeting them for the first time (Sonia doesn't even have a story since she was a DLC character originally)... it's better than nothing I guess. The artwork is done by the talented Tony Taka.
The game can be perceived as your typical modern-day 2D cross-over fighter with basic move sets and mechanics. Characters choose a main fighter and a support fighter who can tag in with different actions depending on the action or combination of buttons pressed, consuming one to four gems of the support gauge (built when taking damage). Players can also switch characters between rounds like Rival Schools, etc. Characters can deal more damage when they deal counter damage or pull off the occasional "Critical Hit" too. The A.I. is very poor outside of the highest difficulty, but even that provides little challenge for anyone who is at least somewhat familiar with 2D fighters.
Almost all characters moves are executed the same and most attacks are basic or underwhelming, but that isn't to say that the game isn't at least a little fun in small doses. It looks pretty serviceable, has an okay soundtrack, and characters do have different mechanics and timing (characters like Rick are extremely easy for beginners as he can easily pull off 20+ hits by himself)... it's worth it if you can pick it up on sale as an introduction to the current 2D fighting landscape, but the game has bare-bones extras (Steam achievements being the only noteworthy thing I guess).
