Dragon Saber, sometimes known by its whole name of "Dragon Saber: After Story of Dragon Spirit", and (as the name implies) is the sequel to the previous game, Dragon Spirit. Dragon Spirit was a game I played quite heavily at one point in time on my Nintendo, so discovering there was a sequel piqued my curiosity...but also, it is a nice, short video for a change. Actually, you may be getting quite a few of those right now, as my computer has been having stuttering issues with programs and I have two videos pre-recorded, that somehow got "junked up" by the HD PVR2 --- Floating Runner and Rescue Copter for the PS1...my equipment has been all around problematic. The HD PVR2 having sound sync issues is nothing new, but it seems to be a lot more frequent lately and work has stalled as a result due to my incredible work hours...but anyway:

If you have watched the intro, basically, you receive a mighty saber from the Sun Goddess, Arlia, which allows Huey and Siria to become dragons to fight the evil that plagues their world. If the two are brave enough, they can reclaim their world, which fell into the clutches of Chaos (with "Chaos" being an actual evil doer you must eventually face) due to human selfishness and indifference. The game has 2-player co-op and excellent music from the excellent Shinji Hosoe (look him up...his work is superb) and generally plays like several quality shooters you may have already experienced back when the game was released...not that I find that to be a bad thing at all. You can change settings to increase your life and whatnot, but you get various power-ups and can upgrade your different weapons to be more powerful. You deal with sky and "land and sea" creatures and you can drop bombs to deal with the ground foes and blast the sky foes with your standard shot. Also, if you wait before firing, you can shoot a powerful charged shot. The game was planned to have 10 stages, though a "Deep Sea" stage was seemingly abandoned...so the game has 9 stages.

It is moderately challenging and while it doesn't do anything vastly above and beyond, Dragon Saber manages to be a competent and quality shooter, that I do not believe ever received a release in North America, though I could be wrong...it was released for PC-Engine, Virtual Console (Wii) and Playstation as well, under one of the Namco Compilation titles (Namco Museum Encore, which was never released outside of Japan, if I recall).
