Bloody Roar II, until something new comes out, is the definitive Bloody Roar game in my opinion, and I own all of them! It may have been surpassed by its successors visually and they may even have a deeper fighting engine with the addition of a few extra specials, but BR2 is what made me love the series, buying the third, Extreme, Primal Fury, and even the almost unforgiving fourth game. It is certainly one of the great fighting games for Playstation, and while many of the changes appear subtle on the surface, each minor addition and tweak contributed to a much more polished game.

This game has several neat extras much like the first game (though a few shall be missed) and a few cool new playable characters, but the characters now have really cool super moves and even this minor addition allows the player to unleash several combos never before capable. The game has a custom mode where you can make the rules of the match and add or subtract elements such as canceling into other moves from practically any move. We recommend learning how to play the game the way it was meant to be played at default before toying with the extras, cuz there's not much more embarrassing than learning how to do an infinity combo that won't work in a normal match!

The backdrops haven't changed much (actually, I think some of the stage designs from the first were better and gone are the cool stage intros), but the character models look A LOT better, and the music is awesome and can be changed between console and arcade (it's set to arcade in this video). Sure, I miss the way Alice originally looked, but I'm pleased with the new look overall. The game is a lot of fun but it has a learning curve for sure. You will NOT survive against reasonably decent players of this game. This is one of those games that is terribly cruel to people who haven't played a few rounds, and you don't want to fight against Yugo, Shina, Long(s) or Uriko without knowing what to expect!

There's one more element to this game that sets it apart from some fighting games: The addition of a reasonable Story Mode. It may not be as interesting as say, Evil Zone's plot, but a modest effort was made, with a fair bit of text and lots of great illustrations. In this video, we just play the Arcade mode. Enjoy.
