Board Game Discussion - Getting Into Tabletop RPGs
With COVID running rampant, it's giving a lot of us gamers an opportunity to get some hours in on board and video games. TTRPGs remain a bit elusive and somewhat monolithic to a lot of gamers, though - prep, planning, character, etc. Here are some tips for getting started!
I've talked about TTRPGs a handful of times on my channel, including a bit about my personal favorites as well as more extensively discussing my own thoughts on them. Tabletop RPGs have been around for decades and represent some ultimate aspects of gaming - more freedom of actions and control of the game flow and story, a true narrative progression, providing meaning to a game world, and much more. Depending on who you're playing with. And who's running it. And what the exact game is. Therein lies the many rubs of TTRPGs. TTRPGs are meant to be highly malleable - you may have an adventure/exploration heavy campaign one time, and another time have a more roleplay/social heavy experience. Some game systems allow you to be the villain(s), as well. This leaves far more questions, especially for new players, and can end up being exceedingly confusing.
In this video, I try to clear some of this up by discussing some key aspects of getting into TTRPGs: how do you know a TTRPG is for you? Which one works for you/fits the game style you want? How do you find people with whom to play? And where and how will you actually play?
