I was a fan of Jet Set Radio (JSR), and this game is an amazing spiritual Successor! If you are a fan of Tony Hawks games, JSR, or any other kind ok BMX/skateboarding/inline skating games, you will ABSOLUTELY love this game! I am so glad I picked this up!
In this game, you play Red, a cyborg-like being that is in search of his real head. The story is a bit darker than I expected, in a great, weird way! The plot so far is basically: take down rival crew's turf, earn rep doing it, become All City, fight back against the police, and finally challenge the antagonist to get your head back. Yup, I know it already was going to draw me in!
The music in this game is great! Which is definitely a good thing, considering you are going to want to like the music since you will be hearing A LOT of it! You can also find collectibles in the form of new tracks to add to your playlist, so I am excited to hear all the music in this game!
The art style is awesome! It makes playing the game a blast visually, and it is very easy to tell what is going on on-screen at all times. I like the character models, and the world feels vibrant and alive. Can't wait to see all the areas of the game!
Control-wise, it is CRISP, and moving your character around is very easy! I barely ever struggled with the controls during my time so far, just a few times with aerial movement, but for the most part, it felt very fluid. I just have to get use to the controls again. It's been a long time since I've played a skate game. In a game like this, you NEED good controls, and this game will NOT disappoint! I use a controller when I play, so kb/m may be different.
So, now my only complaint, and honestly, this may be a POSITIVE for a lot of Players. It feels easy to me. Like in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, you had to worry about bailing if you didn't land a trick right. I don't think you can mess up in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I never once fell of my board, even when I tricked a bit too late, or fell from really high up. This IS a double-edged sword. For some, it may feel MUCH more accessible than other games like it, but for people like me that played THPS mostly back in the day, it can make it feel a little too easy.
I definitely recommend giving this a try! Like the video says, I have only played for 90 minutes so far, but I am HOOKED and the feeling of nostalgia playing this game, the art, the music, the plot, and everything else, has really drawn me in! It very much deserves the glowing reviews it has received on Steam! Fantastic job, Team Reptile! You made this game worth the wait!
