Borderlands 2 is an ego-shooter video game that is set as a space western. It uses cel shading graphics to create a rather unique look and like the first game "Borderlands" it is based on the unreal engine 3. It features a gun emulator for finding ever new loot in form of guns ranging from pistols, SMGs, assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns to grenade launchers and the regular grenade. There are a few new elements like class mods and artifacts (which are meaningless). All come with different elemental effects and some with funny descriptions. All is hyped up.
The game was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games in 2012. Players need to shoot their way through Pandora doing kill and fetch quests. The story is uninspiring but ok-ish, the characters you meet range from totally insane to cliche to freaky to forcefully not-cliche and forgettable. Some characters are very strong though and that is where Borderlands 2 is strong too. Despite really nice graphics the game feels shallow though, the humour could not meet the cool and funny level of the first game and there are fewer things to explore than in the first game. Borderlands 2 looks very creative, but only the first Borderlands really was. As a sequel it does not meet the standards set by the first game. Still, it was very well received and - weirdly - gained a metacritic of over 90%.
If you want mindless shooting, this is your game. After finishing it I however felt like "That was it?", but also some kind of relief, that it was over. I didn't even bother to finish all the DLC. I don't remember anything about this game, which is very different from the first game. I would not rate this game (despite cool graphics and some unique hyped-up characters) higher than 79% as a PC game and that only because they put in a lot of effort. For a mindless shooter however it is very good and the high ratings of beyond 85% seem justified. So if you want to switch off your brain and revel in impressive graphics, just go ahead.
