Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

Once again, before the Barubary fight, but with a quick switch out of Rand & Jean for Katt & Sten. Both are good enough to handle the first part of the fight, but the real star of this video is Ryu. He's going to be soloing Barubary in this video after deciding to select yes on Barubary's desire for a one on one fight.

In vanilla, this would be quite a difficult challenge because Ryu has no spell to heal himself with, meaning he needs lots of full heal items in storage to survive the fight.

Here though, he has Recovery to heal himself up to full as needed. If he runs out of ap, then he has plenty of Elixirs in backup.

The idea here is to be very careful with attacking. If you have tons of Energy items to spam for ap recovery, you could opt to use Grand Dragon to do damage. I didn't so I had to buff up Ryu via the Ares Shield and watch my hp closely because I'll likely be taking counter attack damage on top of whatever Barubary tosses Ryu's way. Having ~250 hp at the start of a turn is enough for me to risk attacking as it should cover the damage from a counter + Mjollnir. Any lower than that and Ryu uses Recovery on himself.

Certainly a tricky one on one fight, but by all means not an impossible challenge if you keep a close eye on your hp and heal when it's needed.

Afterwards, Barubary's dialogue is slightly different, telling you that there's a treasure you can grab if you turn to the right and go forward.

What Barubary doesn't tell you is that you need Katt & Sten to get this treasure, hence why I have them along for this outing. Turn to the right after Barubary disappears, put Katt in the lead, and have her strike down the wall to the east. Put Sten in the lead now and keep walking to the east until you get very close to the chest, but can't walk anymore. Have Sten swing on over there and nab the Life Bracelet from the treasure chest.

The Life Bracelet is very good for one reason...immunity to instant death. Now Rand won't be forced out of his Armored Armadillo Jr. form unless he gets sent to critical hp which is never happening on my watch.

Anyways, back to where Barubary was. Next time, I'll be at the dragon statue located just to the north of here, the last one in the entire game.
