Brok the Investigator is a point-and-click action game with detective, puzzle, and beat-em-up sections. You play as Brok, a Private Eye, who lives a basement apartment in the slums of a Cyberpunk-like world where there is a stark difference between the poor, kept out of nicer areas by robots, and the rich, who live in clean, robust urban locales. You’re responsible for the Graff, who is a teenage cat and the son of Brok’s late wife, Lia. Starting the game with a nightmare, a lot of Brok’s fears are shown in this section, and as the game progresses, you see that he has his own insecurities that are only made worse by the cloak-and-dagger nature of the world around him.

The game changes based on your choices throughout the story, and there are RPG elements as you progress, such as choosing whether to upgrade stats like health or attack power after increasing your level through brawling against various enemies. The game lets you switch back and forth between an action mode and an adventure mode. Action mode is for attacking and combat, and adventure mode is for investigating and interacting with the environment and other characters. The overall look and feel of the game is if it’s from a cartoon of the 90s, and the vibe is generally fun, although some of the investigative areas can seem a bit daunting. The key is to look into every aspect of the room your character is in to decipher what is being concealed or hidden in plain sight.

Through investigating the clues thoroughly, you can effectively tackle the interrogation sections of the game, which allow you to discover a character’s true motives and motivations.

Developed and Published by COWCAT Games, Brok the InvestiGator is a point-and-click indie action game that released August 26th, 2022 for Microsoft Windows, on October 4th, 2022 for Linux and MacOS, and on March 1st, 2023 for Nintendo Switch, and last and current generation Playstation and Xbox consoles. For this review video, I played the Playstation 5 version.
