You play as a young kid (you customize your character to your preference), who is spending the summer with their Grandparents on the farm. Your grandparents have been away for a time, it is suggested due to their health, but they’re better now and ready to get back to the farm. The problem is that since they were gone, it has fallen into disrepair, and its obvious people were hanging out on the grounds, leaving trash scattered around. So, it’s up to you to help your grandparents clean the area up, fix what’s broken, and breathe life back into the farm.

You round up and procure animals – including your own faithful pooch you receive from a merchant – plant trees and crops, and undertake a number of tasks delegated to you by your grandparents. The map shows where you can go to accomplish these tasks, and they’re very chill and relaxed. Additionally, you can build and craft certain tools you need throughout the game at a workbench, using crafting recipes you unlock with time.
A lot of the sandbox games many of us have been accustomed to are tailored more towards mature audiences, but Everdream Valley is one focused on a more kid-friendly experience – but that’s not to say it’s not for adults as well. The valley is huge, there’s so much to do, find, and explore, and it’s very accessible right from the start. I’m always on the lookout for quality, engaging sandbox games that are fun and offer a reason to come back to it, and Everdream Valley is one of those such experiences.
