This is a segmented run; 1 save was made at the start of every level.

Part 2 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTBTWxjmJ7g

I believe a non-segmented run is possible, but there's a lot of luck involved, much more than in the original game. I would say Black Metal is easier than Doom 2's Nightmare, but only if you play it very slow.

The time is faaar from optimal. Anyone can beat it by taking more shortcuts.

- So this is Doom 2. By iD Software.
- And this is the Brutal Doom mod. By SGtMarkIV: www.youtube.com/user/SGtMarkIV
Played on the final public pre-release of v19. Also played with a patch that adds the zombie voices from v16. And with the Metal Volume 3 music pack, a compilation of epic doom remixes of various authors, put together by SGtMarkIV.
- Playing on the hardest difficulty, Black Metal. Monsters are much faster and aggressive (which they already are in Brutal Doom), and all damage to the player is increased by 50%. Ammo pickups are increased by 50%.

FAQ
Q. Plutonia-
A. Fuck No.

You CANNOT run past monsters in Brutal Doom. They're too powerful and aggressive. On Level 1 it's already suicide to run past everything.

Expect some jumping shortcuts. MAP07 and MAP29 can be finished in 10 seconds using shortcuts. I play the levels without using them, then I reload, and use the shortcuts.

MAP01 - Difficulty 1/5 (easy), Fun 2/5 (boring)
You can't run past most enemies. Hitscan enemies are the worst, since they are greatly buffed in BD.

MAP02 - Difficulty 3/5, Fun 2/5
iD Software has a thing for giant level 2's. First real test on Black Metal. My best advice is to take cover a lot, and dodge by prediction, not reaction. If the foes raise their guns, it's often too late.

MAP03 - Dif 3.5/5, Fun 1/5
I remember people hating this map throughout the years. I said they were exaggerating. They were right. I was wrong. While you can jump to avoid the main room of doom, I still go there to grab the rocket launcher and steal a chaingun, then leave and jump. Screw that room.

MAP04 - Dif 3/5, Fun 2/5
Feels like a shorter MAP02. Small shortcut at the end by jumping.

MAP05 - Dif 4/5, Fun 0/5
I hate this with a fiery passion. In fact, I hate it so hard I jump to skip 75% of it. It's dark, mazelike, and I never bothered to learn it. I can't run past the final ambush without taking massive damage, so I waste time to kill Cacodemons.

MAP06 - Dif 3/5, Fun 3/5
The first room is the biggest mess. And it gets reinforcements later. The 2 hidden Megaspheres make the map much better. As for the Spider Mastermind, I crush it; it dies fast and I can grab that plasma rifle. Plasma is my best friend in Black Metal and I must have it for Dead Simple.

MAP07 - Dif 5/5, Fun 4/5
This map is crazy. In Brutal Doom, a Mancubus' attack has large splash damage, and it ignites fires which last a few seconds that further damage you. The 4 captured marines become targets for the enemy when you're spotted, so there's Mancubus fire EVERYWHERE. The moment they shoot, your cover is useless.

MAP08 - Dif 2/5, Fun 4/5
I for one love this map. I take a detour to the Caco room, flip the sargeant off, flip the switch on, so later I grab the 1st BFG of the game in another room. The Barons and Cacos sometimes infight.

MAP09 - Dif 4/5, Fun 1/5
The start would be a pain without the BFG. But then, it's just a mess of Imps and Pain Elementals. I jump a bit, but I don't even know how much of a shortcut that is. Memorizing this level helps the most. And that Soulsphere at the end is an absolute necessity for the next level.

MAP10 - Dif 5/5, Fun 1/5
I hate this map. You don't refuel on anything but hatred. Hitscan enemies are overpowered in Brutal Doom. They even have a tiny chance to Dodge Roll your attacks, and for some freak reason, it happens in this level more than any other combined.

MAP11 - Dif 4/5, Fun 4/5
It's complete chaos all the time. The biggest problem happens if you end the previous map with low HP. Anyway, a hidden Soulsphere and Invulnerability are your big chances.

MAP12 - Dif 4/5, Fun 2/5
An example of how levels become shorter and easier when you take 5 minutes to learn them. The final battle is too luck-based.

MAP13 - Dif 2/5, Fun 2/5
Used to like this map. The more I play it, the less I like it.

MAP14 - Dif 3/5, Fun 1/5
Ok, what is this level supposed to represent anyway? These are the "city" levels. Where in your city do you find "The Inmost Dens"?
I don't even care of this level, I just memorized the route, then found a jump to shorten it.

MAP15 - Dif 2/5, Fun 3/5
Again, hitscan enemies in BD = death. My practice runs were infuriating until I developed this strategy. Most speedrunners activate a switch in this level from far below it. The trick still works in BD, but it's hard to pull off.

Secret 1 - MAP31 - Dif 6/5, Fun 3/5
You are not going to believe this, but this is the hardest level in the game now. IT TAKES MORE ROCKETS THAN NAZIS.

Secret 2 - MAP32 - Dif 1/5, Fun 2/5
Wastes more time than it should.
