I figured it was time to scratch my DOOM itch since I haven't played any of the games in a little while. I decided on DOOM 64 since I feel like it's the one that sees the least amount of attention when it's every bit as good as its predecessors. In my opinion, it's actually considerably harder in a lot of ways including the fact that most of the levels are quite large and feature lots of puzzle solving and backtracking.
Playing with Brutal DOOM through the Zandronum source port allows us to actually take things up a notch and also makes the game watchable. The original console release was so dark that I believe it would make a pretty bad viewing experience these days. The game is actually very colorful, but you wouldn't know that by playing the washed-out and muddy 64 release.
I'll be playing through the whole game over time, so stay tuned for more in the weeks to come. Hope you enjoy!
