While you might recognize him from the Little Mermaid your parents and your grandparents (hell even your great-grandparents!) would have known Buddy Hackett from his stand up career going back to the 1950s and his regular appearances on the Tonight show when it was hosted by Johnny Carson.

Hackett also dabbled on stage and screen with notable appearances in Herbie the Love Bug and Mad Mad World alongside Mickey Rooney.

Hackett suffered from diabetes and heart disease. In the early 90s doctors recommended he receive a bypass he refused. In June 2003 he suffered a stroke and then a week later died of heart failure. He was 78.
