Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne was a critical and commercial success selling a million copies in a little over 1 month.

It is easy to see why because it is a truly meaty expansion that told a rich and compelling tale from multiple perspectives, added new playable races, reintroduced aquatic units and included new RPG like elements. It also offered improvements to the base game’s mechanics and added many new units.

The expansion’s success and story set the stage for the massively popular MMO-RPG World of Warcraft, which was released in 2004 and is set 3 years after the events of Frozen Throne.

Unfortunately an attempt at a remake of both the base game and the expansion in 2020 was an appalling failure that further tarnished the reputation of a once revered and innovative game developer
