Boss #3: Team Mothiva

Mothiva
HP: 23
Defense: 0

Attacks:
-Music Note (Hits a single party member up to three times, dealing 3 damage per hit)
-High Note (Hits all party members for 4 damage)
-Kick (Hits a single party member for 4 damage. If the first hit's not blocked, Mothiva follows up with three more hits of 3 damage)
-Zasp Defense Up (Increases Zasp's defense for two turns)
-Revive Zasp (Revives Zasp with 5 HP if Zasp is knocked out)
-Turn Relay (Mothiva passes her turn to Zasp, giving him a second action)

Zasp
HP: 29
Defense: 1

Attacks:
-Needle Toss (Targets up to three random party members for 3 damage per hit)
-Kick (Targets up to three random party members for 3 damage per hit)
-Spicy Berry (Raises attack for two turns)
-Taunt (Inflicts Taunt on a single party member, limiting them to normal attacks for the following turn. Doesn't take up Zasp's action for the turn.)

If it looks like I haven't done a HARDEST playthrough before by now...that's because I indeed haven't. I've done a regular Hard mode playthrough before, but that's it. So I haven't had any practice with this difficulty prior to making these videos. Not the best idea I've had, really.

These two can be pretty tricky. There's a lot of multi-hit attacks coming your way (with Mothiva's kick being particularly nasty if you don't block the first hit), with Mothiva also having an AoE and the ability to revive and buff Zasp. Zasp, meanwhile, has a Taunt that can really mess with your strategy in addition to getting a free attack boost if Mothiva's attacked while he's able to move.

However, by this point the good medals are starting to come in. Back Support, paired with Kabbu's own taunt, can really help dampen the incoming damage, and the Poison Defender/Weak Stomach combo can give him yet another point of defense (although the damage he takes from poison is an annoyance).

Leif should also have Frigid Coffin by now if he didn't have it for Aria, and freezes are a godsend for locking down either one of Zasp or Mothiva for a turn. You may wish to be conservative with your freezes, however; each freeze you land will increase their resistance to it, and their resistance is already higher than Aria's as it is. You wouldn't want to get screwed by not having a freeze land when you need it, would you?

As for Vi, Hurricane Toss lets her do full damage to Zasp despite his defense. Having her in the front row will further increase Hurricane Toss's damage, and with the Swap Position option in the Strategy menu she can be up there without disrupting Kabbu's position in the back row if you're using Back Support.

You are going to want to watch your TP and make sure you have a lot of TP-restoring items. A single Sleep Resistance medal will prevent Drowsy Cakes putting the eater to sleep and make them a really good healing option, but you're probably going to want another option for the people who don't have a Sleep Resistance medal. Attack-increasing items like Spicy Berries can help speed things along. I also made use of a Spicy Bomb here, but in hindsight I don't think its damage makes up for the inventory slot cost.

Mothiva looks like the higher priority here, but focusing on her too hard can make Zasp hit much harder than he needs to. What I opted for here was to alternate between the two depending on if Zasp was frozen or not, as he won't get an attack boost if he's frozen.

Chapter List:
0:00 Medals, Items, and Stats
0:20 Pre-fight Cutscene
1:30 Fight
8:14 Post-fight Cutscene

Bug Fables is a 2019 turn-based RPG created by Moonsprout Games and published by DANGEN Entertainment. It is heavily inspired by the original two Paper Mario games (Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year door) and can be seen as a spiritual successor to them, although it has plenty of quirks of its own.

Check it out here!: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1082710/Bug_Fables_The_Everlasting_Sapling/

This playthrough was done on Hardest Mode. This isn't quite the same thing as using the Hard Mode medal, although that's part of it. HARDEST is one of the menu codes uncovered by doing certain things in the game, which serve as mutators when entered into the naming screen when creating a new file.

From the Bug Fables wiki (https://bugfables.fandom.com/wiki/Menu_Codes):
-The game is permanently in Hard Mode.
-Wearing the Hard Mode medal turns Team Snakemouth into Pibu.
-All enemies have 15% more HP and deal 1 more damage.
-After defeating Chapter 2's boss: all enemies deal 1 more damage.
-After starting Chapter 4: all enemies have 1 more defense.
-Members of a certain lategame optional boss team have 1 additional point of damage and defense.

Many thanks to the Bug Fables Discord for helping me make sure the information here is accurate.
