Blast them bandits!

Not-Quite-Miniboss: Bandit Ambush

Burglar
HP: 17
Defense: 1

Attacks:
-Tackle (5 damage to all party members; steals an item if not blocked)
-Rock Throw (6 damage to a single party member)
-Flee (Escape the battle; used after stealing an item)

Thief
HP: 13
Defense: 0

Attacks:
-Tackle (5 damage to a single party member; steals an item if not blocked)
-Gust (4 damage to all party members)
-Flee (Escape the battle; used after stealing an item)

Wasp Scout
HP: 18
Defense: 0

Attacks:
-Kick (6 damage to a single party member)
-Needles (Hits a single party member up to three times, dealing 4 damage per hit. Inflicts poison)
-Summon (Summons a Wasp Trooper or another Wasp Scout)

This is another fight that's effectively a miniboss even if the game doesn't consider any of these enemies "real" minibosses. Unlike with the Wasp Trooper from before, however, this fight can be a real challenge on Hardest if you're not prepared for it. Everybody here hits very hard, and both the Burglar and the Thief have an AoE Attack that they love to spam.

Thanks to the bandits' AoEs, it's best to have everyone contribute to offense here; a more defensive strategy might not be able to keep up with the incoming damage. I recommend having Vi in front since she'll benefit the most from the extra damage, but Kabbu could work as well to get around the Burglar's defense. Either way, getting rid of the bandits should be your top priority; the Scout's attacks aren't anywhere near as threatening as what the bandits can do. I recommend getting rid of the Thief first as his attacks are more annoying to deal with (button mash/button sequence action commands suck), and also because his HP is lower and he has no defense. Vi's Tornado Toss is probably the best way to do this, while Leif can lock down the Burglar with Frigid Coffin (if he's lucky; the Burglar has high enough freeze resistance that it's not guaranteed).

Once the Thief goes down it's time for the Burglar. Vi won't be so useful here due to the defense, but Hurricane Toss can get around that. Meanwhile, the Frigid Coffin/Heavy Strike combo works just as well here as it did back in the Aria fight, and Heavy Strike pierces defense.

When the bandits are dead the worst is over. The Wasp Scout does have the ability to summon backup, but in my opinion neither another Scout nor a Wasp Trooper would be as difficult to deal with as the bandits were. Other than that, he has no defense, so Vi can deal with him just fine, and once she knocks him down Leif can freeze him. Furthermore, his lack of AoEs means Taunt can keep damage away from the other two. It shouldn't be too hard to get rid of him.

Attack-boosting items can help speed things along if you can afford the turn to use them. I recommend Berry Jams as they raise Defense too, which can help reduce the damage from the AoEs. As for medals, Back Support and Super Block+ can help reduce damage, and Break can get rid of the Burglar's defense (again, if you can afford the turn to use it). Spiky Bod can passively damage the enemies should they target Kabbu, but there's a good chance they'll opt for their non-contact attacks instead.

If things get extremely desperate, note that the bandits will try to run if they successfully steal an item. Intentionally letting this happen will take them out of the fight, assuming you're willing to part with the item in question.

Bug Fables is a 2019 turn-based RPG created by Moonsprout Games and published by DANGEN Entertainment. It is heavily inspired by the original two Paper Mario games (Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year door) and can be seen as a spiritual successor to them, although it has plenty of quirks of its own.

Check it out here!: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1082710/Bug_Fables_The_Everlasting_Sapling/

This playthrough was done on Hardest Mode. This isn't quite the same thing as using the Hard Mode medal, although that's part of it. HARDEST is one of the menu codes uncovered by doing certain things in the game, which serve as mutators when entered into the naming screen when creating a new file.

From the Bug Fables wiki (https://bugfables.fandom.com/wiki/Menu_Codes):
-The game is permanently in Hard Mode.
-Wearing the Hard Mode medal turns Team Snakemouth into Pibu.
-All enemies have 15% more HP and deal 1 more damage.
-After defeating Chapter 2's boss: all enemies deal 1 more damage.
-After starting Chapter 4: all enemies have 1 more defense.
-Members of a certain lategame optional boss team have 1 additional point of damage and defense.

Many thanks to the Bug Fables Discord for helping me make sure the information here is accurate.
