BURN! Burn to the ground!

Event: Wasp Invasion

Immediately after facing the Watcher and retrieving the final artifact you're thrown into a plot tunnel that ends with another boss of sorts. Instead of just showing the boss, I decided to show the whole thing.

The original plan was to fight all six of the enemies on the way to the throne room, but alas I found out I didn't have the skill for that. If you're really good at superblocking and being efficient with your TP you might be able to pull it off, but otherwise you're probably going to run out of resources very quickly, and you're not able to get more items other than what the caravan sells and anything you might have given Amber until it's all over. So instead I just recommend avoiding them all and hightailing it to the throne room.

If you do want to fight them, all the fights are various combinations of Wasp Troopers and Wasp Scouts, both of which I've covered in previous videos. They've picked up an additional point of defense since you last saw them, which can make things surprisingly difficult for you (particularly the Troopers' 3 defense, which is very high for this game). Defense piercing attacks are the name of the game; Vi's Needle Toss and Needle Pincer and Kabbu's Under Strike in particular, but Hurricane Toss, Heavy Strike, and the medal Antlion Jaws can also help, as can defense-lowering skills and items like Break, Deep Taunt, and Burly Bombs. Leif's probably going to have to settle for being support.

Triumph Buzz and Victory Buzz are worth a mention since you'll be fighting more than one battle here, but I ultimately found I was getting hit too much and spending too much TP for either medal to really help. I also experimented with Life Stealer here to see if it could heal the HP cost of Hard Charge back, but alas it can't (at least not at this point in the game).

For all the resources you put into fighting the Wasps, you get barely EXP out of it, and the berries and items they drop don't amount to much either. Unless you really want to challenge yourself, just avoid all the enemies and high tail it to the throne room. There, you'll face....

Boss #9.5: The Wasp King
HP: 999 (Irrelevant)
Defense: 1 (Irrelevant)

Attacks:
-Axe Strike (8 damage to a single party member)
-Fire Pillar (99 damage to all party members. Unblockable and ignores defense)

Much like Maki at the very beginning of the game, this is a scripted fight. In this case, it'll end with the Wasp King frying your entire party to a spicy crisp.

He can one shot Vi and Leif if you fail to block his axe and haven't raised their HP from their starting values (be it through ranking up, Heart Berries, or HP Plus medals), but he'll only attack twice before using Flame Pillar. Even if you were to somehow win this fight, the game would just continue like you lost.

So really nothing you do here matters. Put up a good fight for the sake of the story, practice some skills you've been having trouble executing, or just pass your turns until the Wasp King decides it's time for a barbeque.

Bug Fables is a 2019 turn-based RPG created by Moonsprout Games and published by DANGEN Entertainment. It is heavily inspired by the original two Paper Mario games (Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year door) and can be seen as a spiritual successor to them, although it has plenty of quirks of its own.

Check it out here!: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1082710/Bug_Fables_The_Everlasting_Sapling/

This playthrough was done on Hardest Mode. This isn't quite the same thing as using the Hard Mode medal, although that's part of it. HARDEST is one of the menu codes uncovered by doing certain things in the game, which serve as mutators when entered into the naming screen when creating a new file.

From the Bug Fables wiki (https://bugfables.fandom.com/wiki/Menu_Codes):
-The game is permanently in Hard Mode.
-Wearing the Hard Mode medal turns Team Snakemouth into Pibu.
-All enemies have 15% more HP and deal 1 more damage.
-After defeating Chapter 2's boss: all enemies deal 1 more damage.
-After starting Chapter 4: all enemies have 1 more defense.
-Members of a certain lategame optional boss team have 1 additional point of damage and defense.

Many thanks to the Bug Fables Discord for helping me make sure the information here is accurate.
