In 1998 while the world was gearing up for the release of Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64, Saturn fans were getting ready for Burning Rangers from Sonic Team. Sega did such a disservice to their fans with all the Saturn releases in 1998 because Bernie Stolar, President of Sega of America at the time, didn't even want to deal with the system anymore. He simply wanted to move on to the Dreamcast. While he was instrumental in the Dreamcast's successful launch, he was also responsible for the complete lack of software released for the Saturn from 1997 onward. Burning Rangers was only released in extremely limited quantities in North America with no marketing whatsoever. A real shame because most Saturn fans would have eaten this up.

Mixing arcade action, a unique storyline and some interesting gameplay, Burning Ranger is a game that's better remembered in the past thanks to a primitive camera system. Hardcore Saturn collectors won't want to miss out on it, but if you're looking for a game that holds up well, sadly this isn't one. The camera is what ultimately hurts the experience, but it goes a little beyond that.

I was a hardcore fan of this game years ago so it's a little sad to see that it hasn't aged as gracefully as I would have liked.
