Burning Road. More like Burning Offroad! This game is thought to be Sony's answer to Daytona USA since the classic intro music, (not heard in this capture) the chunky looking graphics, and even some sound effects when you pick your car and transmission all have a striking resemblance to Daytona USA on the Sega Saturn. However it might just be more of a coincidence since this game came out a whole year after the Playstation launched, and while this game may sort of look and sound like Daytona USA; Daytona USA this game is NOT. The Playstation's Daytona USA killer was Ridge Racer, and a fine game it was. Burning Road.......is not a fine game. Burning Road is a nostalgia coated turd. Let's learn why.

There is a learning curve on this game which is fine. The problem is that the game's presentation makes you think that you're going to be playing a game similar to Daytona USA. Well, you're not. Every single vehicle handles like absolute crap. Around every turn you go into a massive slide and always, ALWAYS end up in the wall. It wasn't until I tried a rally racing technique that I started moving through the pack. Burning Road is essentially an arcade style rally game, not a street racer even though two of the three tracks are street tracks. Think of Sega Rally instead......just not good. The tracks are few, short, and boring. The A.I. is relentless and indestructible even on EASY. Even once you get a handle on the controls it's still not fun. It's cheap. There's road construction obstacles in the middle of a RACE TRACK! When you hit them it's like you rear ended a car. Then there's this stupid gray barrel that's in the first and second tracks that gets knocked all around and you slow down a ton if you hit it. You slow down alot even when you hit road cones! This game is difficult for all the wrong reasons, from the stupid rally control, to lame obstacles on the track, to the relentless A.I. that screws you over. The game really seems like it should be alot of fun, but it's not. It's a chore with no charm.

One good thing about this game is it's music. I live in the U.S. and the American version of this game has it's own U.S. version remix of the original soundtrack which in my opinion is way better. What's not better is the stupid announcer. However the music is so awesome that I can overlook that. Too bad the game itself is NOT awesome. In the end this game is not unplayable. It's just not fun. You could spend time playing this hybrid between Daytona USA and Sega Rally. Or you could spend your time playing Daytona USA and Sega Rally. I vote for option B!

Thanks for watching
