This video was captured using the actual game on an actual Nintendo Wii console.

AAAAAAaaaaahhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Unfortunately you won't be hearing that legendary and hilarious scream in this capture. However the new scream, while not quite as funny, is still pretty good. This is a complete remake of the original Commodore 64 puzzle/platformer hit, Impossible Mission. How does it compare against the original? Let's find out.

On the surface there are things that you will notice right away. First is that there are now 3 characters to choose from. The guy, the girl, and the robot. They all control the same but have different screams lol. Second, the graphics look a ton better. Third, the voices have all been redone and there is now music instead of the buzzing sounds. However the music is actually quite ok. I never played the original back in the day, so I really don't have any nostalgia for the original sounds like some may have. Lastly you'll notice that there are three versions of the game to choose from. New, Classic, and Merged. I did not capture any footage of classic or merged since both of them suck. Classic had all of the retro graphics of the Commodore, but still has the larger hit boxes and none of the original sounds or voices of the Commodore. Merged is simply the original Commodore character running around the remade world. Yes, it's as stupid as it sounds.

Below the surface is the core gameplay which has changed a little. What you might see is that the enemy hit boxes are a tad on the large side. This makes jumping over the robots a little more difficult than in the Commodore original which kinda makes this game harder for the wrong reason. On the Commodore you could be almost right next to the robot and still jump clear over it. In this version you will be zapped. Is it game breaking? I'm not sure yet because even though the jumping is more difficult, I can make it much further in this version on hard mode than I can in the Commodore original. Why? Because the robots, while still tricky, are nothing close to as tricky as they are on the Commodore. Also searching the furniture in the room takes about half as long as it does on the Commodore. Between those two things makes this game quite a bit easier, but you can loose time very very fast if you get too careless like I do. There is also a bug in the game that causes you to hit your head if you jump into the side of a platform as seen at 10:33. It didn't cost me my life that time, but it sure did at 10:43. Also the controls are extremely limited and sort of stupid. The ONLY two control configurations that are available is to either control with the Wiimote vertically with one hand and using the A or B button to jump, or you may jump with the Z button on the nunchuck attachment. The nunchuck control stick does nothing. There is NO classic controller support which is stupid. The controls feel a bit weird at first, but they're workable. Puzzle solving is harder due to the interface being a little too small to really make out the pieces well, but the instruction manual does have a guide that tells you which pieces belong to each puzzle which helps alot. There is also a save state feature and an easy mode which makes the robots less aggressive, adds two more hours to the clock, highlights the control room in red, and highlights all of the rooms that have been completely searched in yellow. The game defaults to easy upon boot up.

Most likely those who have played the Commodore version back in the day will not like this remake due to the larger hit boxes and the head bumping bug. However if you can look passed that or if you've never played the Commodore version, you might really enjoy yourself. All I know is I haven't once rage quit this game. It has an odd appeal to me. It only cost me 4 bucks and I feel that it's still a decent enough game to keep in my collection. It may be different for you. I hope my video has helped with a decision to either look for or avoid this game. I apologize to those who haven't heard of this game since my description is all about the comparison to the Commodore original. You can look up a review of the Commodore game to understand what is going on as I don't want to make this description any longer than it already is.

Thanks for watching.
