Here is a little comparison Armsid vs sid 6581R3. I would like to point out that no original 6581R3 sounds the same, they are all different.
You can see that the Armsid is a really very accomplished chip. Especially with the latest firmware 2.15.
It's a chip full of options. You can adjust the bass and treble. Even the adsr filter can be turned on or off if you want to use the chip in a synth box. The digifix option is also great. On my personal C64 II I have a resistor for the digifix but when I use the original chip, the sound can be distorted when playing demos at the sample level. On the armsid you can configure it in software or hardware... really great.
On all the sids that I have listened to I have not encountered any glitch. If the person doesn't know there is an Armsid chip inside, they won't know the difference.
Note that the Armsid has an Arm chip clocked at 100mhz, it can emulate a Commodore 64 on its own.
I can only recommend this chip. If you are a handyman you can buy the Arm2sid, a little soldering on a classic C64 but emulates 2 or 3 sids and also the OPL.
For me the Armsid is really a very good choice. But if you are a collector, buy the nano, the X-SID, the backsid and the Armsid. Each chip has its own particularity and some even add something extra to the original sid... for example bass intensity or something else. I use all these chips and thank the developers who still allow our c64s to have a voice!
Plan ahead! Sids fleas gradually die. It's always good to have a replacement chip on hand!
Thank you for following me, think of the little blue thumb for referencing!
The channel brings me nothing apart from the pleasure of you sharing my videos. I have no sponsors and do not receive any royalties from manufacturers or YouTube!
In case a developer can send me a chip so that I can test it :) I'm open to anything new, also looking for a SIDkick! I'm ready to buy it from you to test it for everyone's pleasure!
