Castlevania Anniversary Collection (Castlevania Part 1) playthrough
1The white whale still eludes me. More than thirty years later, I still cannot defeat Dracula. Honestly, it's a feat to even get that far in this game. There are some areas that are just mean. Medusa heads and axe knights together in the hallway leading up to Death, fleamen in the clock tower, even things like Igor jumping around throwing fireballs at you when you're trying to defeat Frankenstein's Monster. This game is notoriously difficult, and there's a reason for it.
Of course, it didn't help that the game crashed on me, costing me a chunk of time and throwing me off my game. It created a cycle, frustrating me, making my play sloppier, getting me even more frustrated. It's bad enough when that happens just because I'm not playing well, but for it to happen because the game crashed when I was doing well? That's outside the player's control, and that's really, really harmful. Yea, an NES game crashed on me. Not the entire program, but the actual NES game itself, Castlevania crashed. The emulator, the Collection, was working fine still. That is damned impressive that I crashed an NES game.
Still, I did manage to make it all the way to Dracula himself, without cheats. Other than reloading a save I'd made previously after the crash so I didn't have to do the ENTIRE game over again, but that took me back another stage entirely. I'd proven I can get TO Dracula legit. But beating him is another story entirely. I don't know if I can do it, but the stream would just be hours of my banging my head against this wall and nobody wants to see that. So I cut it at my usual time and... I dunno if I'll come back to it, honestly. I may just start Castlevania III instead. Or maybe I'll practice offline until I can beat him.
